Dear Parent/Guardian,
JOINTLY DEVELOPED
The school and the parents have agreed that they will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement by developing a partnership that will help children prepare our students academically emotionally for college, career and life. This document was reviewed and updated with families on May 14, 2020.
To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand the district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.
THE SCHOOL DISTRICT OF PHILADELPHIA ANCHOR GOALS:
100% of students will graduate, ready for college and career.
100% of 8-year-olds will read on grade level.
100% of schools will have great principals and teachers.
SDP will have 100% of the funding we need for great schools, and zero deficit.
Bayard Taylor Elementary School GOALS:
At least 70% of Kindergarten students and 50% of 1st and 2nd-grade students will score on target by the Spring Aimsweb assessment.
No more than 25% of 4th and 5th graders will score below basic on the math PSSA assessment.
No more than 25% of 3rd graders will score below basic on the 3rd grade ELA PSSA assessment.
No more than 25% of 4th and 5th graders will score below basic on the PSSA ELA assessment.
At least 60% of kindergarten students and 75% will make at least one year’s growth as evidenced by their independent reading level from Q1 to Q4.
At least 50% of students will attend at least 95% of school days or more.
At least 90% of students will not receive out of school suspension.
To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together:
SCHOOL/TEACHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Bayard Taylor Elementary School will:
Host Report card conferences three times per year.
Prior to the close of all marking periods, we will inform parents of their child’s progress via interim reports.
Teachers and administrative staff are available to meet with parents. Parents can schedule an appointment by calling the school at 215-400-3880 and leave a message with office staff.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
We, as parents, will:
Monitor attendance and punctuality (including online sessions).
Send child(ren) to school clean, presentable and in uniform.
Make sure child(ren) has good nutrition and a good night’s sleep throughout the school year.
Make sure that homework is completed.
Monitor the amount of television my child(ren) watches, phone and plays video games.
Read with my child(ren) at home for at least for 20 minutes daily.
Volunteer in my child’s school.
Participate as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child’s education.
Promote positive use of my child’s extracurricular time.
Stay informed about my child’s education and communicate with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the School District either received by my child or by mail and responding, as accordingly.
Serve, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as being in the School Advisory Council (SAC).
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
Do my homework every day and ask for help when I need it.
Read at least 30 minutes every day outside of school time.
Give to my parents or guardian all notices and information received by me from my school every day.
Self-monitor my DRA and PSSA results, noting strengths and areas of concern.
Make sure my behavior is in line with our PBIS Program.

Bayard Taylor Elementary School is committed to frequent two-way communication with families about children’s learning. Some of the ways you can expect us to reach you are:
All information for parents is sent home through our Tuesday folders. Due to our high Latino/Hispanic enrollment, all documents are translated into Spanish to meet the needs of our community. All information provided to parents is written in parent friendly language.
Notice for all parent meetings is given in advance of the event and we also provide parents with reminder notice, one to two prior to meetings. When applicable, we will send information home via U.S.P.S.
