Welcome

August, 2018

Hello Bayard Taylor Families,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you had a great summer. I want to welcome you back to a very exciting year at school, and to give a very warm welcome to all of our new students and their families.  Taylor Elementary is fortunate to have the best teachers and staff in the city, and we are so happy to be able to work with your child this year.  We can’t wait to see you on Monday, August 27th for the first day of school!

At Taylor, our priority is to ensure that your child is growing in all ways, including academically, socially and emotionally. Our team works extremely hard to meet the needs of each individual child, and to create a culture where all students feel safe, welcome and excited to learn. We count on you to be our partners in this, and hope that you will communicate with your child’s teacher on a regular basis.

I also wanted to let you know about a few other important things that will help your child to be successful this year.

  • Regular school attendance is crucial for your child to meet with success.  Students are expected to be in school every day by 8:30.  Please see your child’s counselor if you need support with this.
  • This year there is a revised homework policy, which will be hared to you by your child’s teacher.  All students are required to read at home for homework every night, which includes being read to by an adult or older family member.  Depending on the grade and time of year, other homework will be assigned Mondays through Thursdays.
  • All students are required to wear a school uniform to school each day.  The colors for all students are yellow or navy blue tops, and blue or black bottoms.  Students are also required to wear sneakers on days they have physical education.

I am confident that your child will have a great year, and I look forward to working with all of you in the coming weeks and months.
